| What is Spam? |
| The most common form of spam is unsolicited messages delivered in e-mail as a form of commercial advertising According to my own opinion spam mails are not worse than all the "spam" that is thrown into your snail-mail box, even though it is very annoying. I have red that the word Spam originally was can food consisting of Spiced Pork and hAM made by Hormel Foods Corporation for the soldiers during 2nd world war who quickly learned to hate it. Instead of real meal they got this can food, so the word was used in a negative connection. NB I can not guarantee the correctness of the story |
| There is no way to completely avoid spam when you have an
e-mail on the internet. The
spammers use special software that constantly sniff around the internet
snapping email addresses everywhere: homepages, newsgroups, newsletters
etc.etc. Despite everything there are several ways to diminish the amount of Spam mails. Many internet providers have rather efficient Spam filters, contact your own internet provider and ask them about spam filter. There are also a lot of different spam killer programs to install on your computer. Just search the internet for Spam killer or Spam fighter and choose the one you think is the most suitable for you. |
| The spammers often send hundreds and thousands of mails away at the same time. The senders e-mail address is normally invalid, so for that reason do not write back and complain to the spammers, that only confirms that your email is valid and ends up in more Spam mails. |

| Some words of my own regarding the so-called Nigeria letters |
| The typical characteristic of the Nigeria letters is to make the recipient especially selected and to create some sort of intimacy towards the sender in order to feel sympathy for him/her by telling you how difficult it is for him in his former homeland, what dreadful accidents he has been the victim of, such as car accidents, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, bad year for mushrooms and good knows what else they can come up with. |
