When you, as especially selected artist, receive invitations from different galleries / art dealers to participate in different art events, so keep in mind and be aware that 99 % only are interested in your money and not at all in your art. They have probably not even seen your art only bought your email address from someone who lives well of collecting and selling email addresses.
In Sweden we have a saying that fits very well here "wolf in sheep's clothing"

When you are new to the internet and receive your first invitations you feel proud and excited to have been especially selected or when a jury has accepted you for participation. After a while the excitement will disappear and you will realise it was not you and your art, as you thought, that was selected it was your money.
Many of the online juried exhibitions and other juried events have the same jury members and if you think they work as art critics in order to select what they thinks is the best art works you are completely wrong. They could care less about the artworks as long as you are willing to pay.
I do not want to be a killjoy, but it makes me angry to see how unscrupulous people can be.

How to find out if the invitation is serious meant or not?
Well, it is not easy, but by following some basic rules you can diminish the risk to get trapped.

Some basic rules

1. Mostly when you receive a letter where they tell you that you are especially selected not using your name or asking for your website or e-mail address, you can be almost certain they do not have the slightest idea about your art or who you are.

2. Search for the gallery / company's name using a search machine i.e. Google, when you find their homepage read the instructions exactly, even the small print.

3. Check out if there are any informations about them (About us or similar) if not, this is really a warning signal.

4. Check out if you can find the names of the jury, that is the leastyou can demand from them

5. Check out if there is a physical address and phone number so that you can contact them.

6. Contact other artists who have had contact with the gallery / company and ask about their experiences.
Many artists write about their experiences at their homepages if so, the names of the artists will come up when you search for the gallery/company concerned, and you can contact the artist through his homepage.

7. Finally, if you still have your doubts write to us at Avisen-avk and we will do what we can to help you.
