Elio Lopez

THE INVENTOR OF RESIST PAINTING
STARTS A NEW MURAL WITH THE HELP OF
FEDERAL PREVENTION PROGRAMS IN THE LOCAL AREA

(Tampa, FL) June 11, 2007 - Elio Lopez has recently started on a new mural project similar to his past work, which involves disadvantaged children. However, the new mural will drift away from the Spanish themes used in the last mural. The themes of the mural, Forging Ahead, will be unity and peace. The children will assist the artist in the completion of this mural.
The artist is currently involved with Prodigy, a federally funded program which utilizes art as an intervention method for troubled teens. The new mural is being funded by federal prevention programs such as Prodigy, USF School of Social Work, Department of Juvenile Justice, Bay Area Youth Services, Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and St. Leo’s College. The goal of the mural will not only be to portray the importance of unity and peace, but to provide disadvantaged children the opportunity to meet with positive role models and engage in art activities.
The mural is in progress at the Dade City Boys and Girls Club located at 38749 Patti Ln. Dade City, Florida 33523. “Forging Ahead,” will be finished and ready for display by July 1, 2007. This new mural will be as impressive as the previous mural, which is now found at the John F. Germany Public Library.
In addition, Mr. Lopez is highly respected in the community for his work, which has been placed in both public and private collections. He was featured in the Art & Frame Review cover in the July 2004 issue. It was during that year that his new technique spread quickly. In 2005, he was invited to exhibit his work with world renowned artists, Dr. Ferdie Pacheco and Dr. Anthony Cardoso. Not to mention, in 2006 the artist decided to teach for the first time his secret technique to disadvantaged children from Colombia. The children assisted in the mural, which consisted of Spanish themes. The mural was proudly donated to the John F. Germany Library in Tampa, Florida. Most importantly, the news about the mural spread quickly and impressed the Colombian Senate. The artist gained the support from Colombian Senator, Alejandra Moreno Piraquive, who presented Mr. Lopez with an award for his work. In November of 2006, the artist was recognized by the University of Tampa for his contribution to the advancement of modern art. The academic institution was so impressed that he was invited to their Scarfone-Hartley Gallery as a guest lecturer, and was asked to give a dissertation on Resist Painting and Modern Art.
The inventor of Resist Painting has been featured in several publications and local
-More-
television channels such as Univision-Channel 62, City of Tampa T. V., and recently in FADE magazine for his work.
It is not a secret that this talented artist has amazing work, and enjoys helping disadvantaged children in the community. The artist plans to continue producing murals, which involve working with children and teaching them Resist Painting.

Carole Estrup REVEALED AT LAST!
The secret life of a BAREFOOT GIRL OUT OF OHIO ...
(Los Angeles, California, 29May07)- Carole Estrup's long anticipated new book, BAREFOOT GIRL OUT OF OHIO, A Memoir of Survival and Overcoming, published by iUniverse, Inc., the leading provider of publishing technology solutions for authors, announced today. From this powerful memoir, Barefoot Girl Out Of Ohio, emerges an extraordinary story of a brutally abused child who, as a wife, mother and artist blazed her own trail to healing. I don't think anyone ever fully recovers from childhood violence and sexual abuse," the author believes."But I do think one can heal and go beyond simply surviving. As diffiuclt as it was at times, telling my story has put meaning to my pain and suffering. Something about putting it on paper made it more real. My story will help others to understand that they, too, can persevere their way to freedfom. It's not easy, but with small choices every day, and some big ones, a life can change dramatically for the better." Born in 1935, Carole Estrup decided at age three to be an artist. Her lengthy career has merited exhibitions, awards and commissions in the U.S. and abroad. For the past 30 years she has lived in the Southern Sierras with her husband of 42 years, a writer. Embodying all the resilience of the human spirit, Barefoot Girl Out Of Ohio (ISBN=0-595-43694-3) not only inspires hope, it exposes and clarifies the psychological impact and seemingly insurmountable obstacles survivors of sexual abuse must overcome in order to heal and thrive.
Published by iUniverse, it is available now from the publisher, fine book chains and independent bookstores everywhere. iUniverse offers a variety of publishing services to help individuals publish, market, and sell fiction, poetry and nonfiction books. On Tuesday I was at our nation's capitol , in Washington, DC, and shook the hand of Laura Bush our President's First Lady!
http://www.whitehouse.gov/easter/2007/index.html
I stood just to the other side of the display, but the photos they took may not be back for a bit, so I am sending this.....my egg is third from the top.

Unforgettable, and here are the links to the White House event:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/easter/2007/eggsbystate/
shows the event page and a list of our states...click on each state to see the fancy eggcraft...mine is "Connecticut"

http://www.whitehouse.gov/easter/2007/eggsbystate/images/ct.jpg
this link is just to my egg...the graphic is not that bad, but fails.....I used dazzling little genuine gems all through the egg, inside and out, and they don't show up at all....the state flag has three grapevines in the middle, and I used three amethysts, shiny and faceted, but they look like three black beans at the left of the picture....
and used our state gem, the red garnet, on the top and in the foliage, and they don't show at all, and do not sparkle in the photo......I used the blue and clear gems to make the waterfall foam and sparkle and they don't show either.....

Hello again,

Realized it’s been awhile, thought I’d send you all a quick update.

Here in Rural Northern Appalachia, it’s finally Spring. The bluebirds have
stopped by to see if that guy’s got their house cleaned out, ready for
nesting season (they seemed satisfied); and a large woodchuck is grazing in
my yard (which all too soon will need mowing again). Maybe, though, if the
woodchuck family grows large enough, I can leave the lawnmowing to them…
Hmm. Well, they’re probably not that ambitious. But it’s a thought.

But enough about lawnmowing- Let’s talk about more exciting things, like
drawing, and writing. Both of which, happily, I’ve been doing a lot of.

José Da Silveira

PublishAmerica Presents The Birth of a World by José Da Silveira
Frederick, MD March 1, 2007 -- PublishAmerica is proud to present The Birth of a World: The Books of Augustus: Book I by José Da Silveira of Campbell, California.

Da Silveira’s fantasy novel begins in 2003 with Augustus on death row. This is the story of how and when he was created and made immortal by Ziusudra in Rome 68 AD while Nero led the Roman Empire 200 years before the Coliseum was built. Augustus’ story takes place all over the universe, all over time. At this moment we find him unafraid of his pending “death by execution” as he knows he’ll be back again.

Apart from Augustus and Julia, every character in the book lived in historical reality or Greek mythology. Following the main protagonists Augustus and Ziusudra, readers will travel back in time to the beginning of all, discovering mystic cities, dead civilizations, gods and goddesses, and encounter great philosophers such as Plato and Socrates, before finally meeting God and the souls who have been waiting for all eternity to rejoin with him.

Da Silveira was born in 1965 in a tiny jungle village in Mozambique on the vast and agitated African continent to a celebrated Portuguese rejoneador (bullfighter) and the daughter of one of the leaders of the French Resistance in Provence. As his father was in Africa fighting in the Mozambican Liberation War, Da Silveira spent the first years of his life shuttling between Africa and France, then Portugal and France, ultimately settling with his mother in Marseille. The work of Jose Da Silveira, a writer and painter, has been widely celebrated, particularly in Europe, and he has been called a true innovator and one of the most influential artists of the twenty-first century.

PublishAmerica is the home of 20,000 talented authors. PublishAmerica is a traditional publishing company whose primary goal is to encourage and promote the works of new, previously undiscovered writers. Like more mainstream publishers, PublishAmerica pays its authors advances and royalties, makes its books available in both the United States and Europe through all bookstores, and never charges any fees for its services. PublishAmerica offers a distinctly personal, supportive alternative to vanity presses and less accessible publishers.

Teresa Neptune

Teresa Neptune's photograph "Linda" is featured in B&W Magazine, the American Black and White Magazine for collectors of photography. In issue 49, pg.50, Michael More compares the relative value of Neptune's photo to that of an Edward Steichen and a photo by Barbara Kruger. He concludes that Neptune's photo is the one with "invisible gold" and he would choose that one to hang on his wall and live with.
Please see www.teresaneptune.com to view the photo and read the article.

Dear Friends:
Half a year has past since my last mailing announcing an update of my website: www.iarc.org/~4x1mk/ .

I am pleased to invite you to see 15 new works, on the page entitled "Most Recent Paintings", which I hope you will enjoy. I continue to explore the land of the Western Negev that provides inexhaustible material and challenge.
One of them, Multi-Canvas Panorama, is actually ten canvasses joined end to end, 31.5 feet, 9.6 metres long. It's my most ambitious outdoor work to date, worked on furiously during May, June and July trying to beat the oncoming summer heat.
Your critical comments are as always appreciated and useful. Please feel free to pass on the site address to anyone you know who may enjoy it.
Wishing you much happiness and good health, especially for the upcoming holidays.
yours,

evolves, so that format seems to be evolving as well. Those, I think, are
good things, and I hope you enjoy my recent work as much as I have its
creation.

John's Abstract Work On New Jazz CD

Los Angelus based trumpeter Brian Swartz is about to launch his new CD - Three. "Three" is an homage to the great trumpeter Chet Baker and his trio from the late 1970s, which included Doug Raney on guitar and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass.
For his trio, the Los Angeles based trumpeter chose two world-class sidemen: Larry Koonse on guitar and Darek Oles on bass. The trio performs with intensity, subtlety, and a striking poignancy, which could also very easily describe John's paintings.
Brian is a big fan of John's work and wanted to use one of his images for the CD cover and booklet. He chose an abstract piece called " Crescendo" 48"x60" acrylic on canvas.

Dear Friends,
As you probably know already, since 2003, I have been exhibiting my numerous art pieces on my website Love-Peace-Happiness. You have all encouraged me greatly to press on with creating more and

Just now, I could add a couple of my latest works to them.

A new drawing, HYPERLINK
"http://markreep.net/Art_of_Mark_Reep/RemnantOfADreamDrawing.html"
Remnant Of A Dream, is up in the Recent Work gallery.

I’ve also posted a couple updates about this drawing, with some details, on
the Updates page.

A new poem, Small Awakenings, is up on the Poetry and Prose page.

The Updates page seems to be becoming a blog. Not something I planned, or
expected- But there you are :-) It’s been awhile since I’ve written much
about my work, but lately I’ve been making more notes, longer journal
entries, and the Updates page seems a good place to post them- Which I’ve
been doing regularly. I’ve always enjoyed learning about other artists’
processes- And hopefully, something of my approach to making art may be of
benefit to others as well.

As always, all questions, comments, and inquiries are welcome. Thanks for
stopping by! :-)

Mark Reep Hello again everyone,

Just a note to let you know a new drawing, HYPERLINK
"http://markreep.net/Art_of_Mark_Reep/MorningComesToNightsGates.html"
Morning Comes To Night's Gates has been posted on my website, HYPERLINK "http://markreep.net/"markreep.net

Like most of my recent work, this drawing was done in Charcoal and Graphite.
The drawing measures

2 ¾" x 6", and is mounted in a white mat and matte black metal frame.

Here's an excerpt from my notes on this drawing:

Four hours' work: The foot of the mountain's face is coming into focus. I
wasn't happy with the approaches I'd tried there, and that area of the paper
was beyond cleanup with kneaded eraser, so I attacked it with a sharpened
pencil eraser. As often happens when I loosen up, let my hands go, throw
something at a problem area, the results were more promising than what I'd
been trying to make happen. The remaining ghosts of previous efforts,
abandoned directions- marks, tones, textures I couldn't easily scrub away-
became 'found' shapes, faint highlights and shadows that suggested new
possibilities. The trick, as always, is to develop and refine them to their
potential, while avoiding overworking. I almost always think I can make
this or that just a little better. But sometimes, just one more mark is too
many...

More notes will be posted on the Updates page soon.

Thanks for stopping by- And remember, Spring is just around the corner! :-)

All the best,
Mark

Mark Reep Hello again everyone,

Just a note to let you know a new Charcoal and Graphite drawing, Hidden
http://markreep.net/Art_of_Mark_Reep/HiddenInADreamDrawing.html  In A
Dream has been posted on my website, markreep.net http://markreep.net/
Click the drawing's title to visit my site and view the full size image.

The drawing measures 5" x 4"- Set your screen resolution to 800 x 600 to
view at the original's actual size.
The drawing is mounted in a white mat and black metal frame. Framed size is
13" x 13".
Even though Charcoal and Graphite have both have played a large part in my
work for many years, I feel as though I'm still just scratching the surface
of what's possible by combining these media- There's always so much more to
be discovered, to be learned. One of my daily goals is simply to do
something I couldn't do yesterday. Some days, I find I've reached for
rather more than I can grasp, and there seems little to show for the hours
but what I've learned- But that's as it should be, I think. If I'm not
failing some, I'm probably not growing much, either.
And some days, too, I finish a drawing that seems to embody much I've been
reaching for lately. Those are satisfying days,

and 'Hidden In A Dream' is one of those drawings. I hope you enjoy it.

Oh, and yes, the Updates page will be updated soon :-)

After the success of last year’s ‘Mend a Heart on Valentine’s Day’ event Chain of Hope and Novartis are again hosting a reception and auction of hearts at Sketch Gallery, London on the 20th February 2006.
The event, sponsored by Novartis Pharmaceuticals, is being held to help raise funds for children suffering from heart disease and defects in developing countries where they do not have access to the life saving treatment they require.
The art exhibition and auction has been contributed to by both renowned artists and celebrities such as Richard E Grant, Darcey Bussell, Brain May, David Bellamy, Michael Foreman, Adam Hart-Davis and Gail Miller. This year John Nolan has been invited by Chain of Hope to contribute a painting. John created a heart painting in his own distinctive style - " The heart is happiest when it beats for others ". John is very proud to be associated with Mend a Heart on Valentine's Day 2006 .

Sandy Brand ~ WANTED ~

Artists, friends and family to draw, paint, photograph and explore in Scotland with me.

This is where I grew up! I‘d love to share it all with you in the Spring for 10 days !

Mark May 19 - 28th on your calendar, give me a call and I’ll be in touch.

Just to get you dreaming ... how about a day or two in Glasgow, with it's amazing old buildings - the 11th century Cathedral, the University,
The Art Gallery, Statues, Rene McIntosh inspired buildings … then a few days around the little harbours and laneways (closes), in the Neuk's of Fife by the ocean, (with really fresh fish and big Scottish "chips" - or black pudding, or haggis!).
Back across the country we can stop off at waterfalls, old ruins and big rolling hills of heather, then head out to the West coast Islands, rocks, birds, peace ... Everything's so close together in Scotland too ... it's just a "wee" island! DO come and join me!

Dan Anaka Please check out my website and see the changes in my gallery and it’s navigation.
I thought it would be appropriate to show my earlier illustration work in the “Miscellaneous” section of my online gallery. After all I should not be ashamed of my adolescent years.

There is a “New Artwork” Section on my site where I will be displaying my most recent Artwork.
A “Portrait” and “Figurative” section have also been added to the online gallery. These sections will keep growing as I continue to paint. There is a “Wildlife” section that will act more like an archive of my past.

Jeanette Powers Hello friends,
I have not heard your confessions lately, I'm missing you as I've been missing for so long. I didn't want to share my paintings for a long time, so they piled and piled and piled. But sometimes a butterfly comes along that makes you want to fly again, and so it is ... So if you follow the link on the upper left of the homepage titled sketchbook ... you can see #18, The Price of Love. I'd love to hear from you all, so send me a note if you like, a not if you don't. :)

Linda Hoard Hey all....
I just put up the latest images on the Portside Pub mural. A few heads added and a lot more 'detailing' done. With everything going on, it's been a slow progress, but hopefully the pace picks up in the next few months.
